Back up you blog. Don't lose submissions you made, download programs to automatically backup your blog through email. You want to make a huge submission through your blog or if it got hacked. You want to lose all of your submissions.
Create a new admin username. You do this by changing your password and username to make it harder for hackers to hack your blog. I'm not sure if this is a big problem with blogging but I wouldn't want someone accessing all my personal information.
Look at signs of blog hacking. You should look for signs of hacking, because getting a blog back can take months and someone you don't even know could be posting on your personal blog.
Personal note, I wouldn't put anything to personal on a blog anyways. You wouldn't want that getting out for people to use against you.

My Findings in my Blog search
In discovering the huge new world of blogging, I came across a lot of interesting eductational blogs. Similar to the use of wikis. Teachers can post assignments, daily activities, and share all kinds of information with their students out of the classroom.
The first blog I look at was from a teacher who likes to share tons of information about herself and lets the students really get to know her on a personal level. She had videos and daily quips about herself. Not real educational but students get to talk to her through the blog.

This teacher really wanted to emphasize the importance's of blogs in the classroom. She has each student post on their own classes blogs. Sharing information and unique things about themselves so they can really get to know one another. Students have writing assignments that they submit through her blog and other students can view them.

The next blog was definitely the most in depth and had tons of information for students. This teacher had old class blogs, tons of articles and very well put together blog. By far the most useful for students, to access videos from the teacher, past assignments if necessary, and everything in between.
